Sayanim (modern “hebrew” [not the original language] for “helpers” or “assistants”) are jewish individuals, often living outside israel, who voluntarily assist mossad, israel’s intelligence agency, in its operations. Initiated by former mossad director Meir Amit, the sayanim network leverages personal relationships and loyalty to israel to provide logistical support, such as safe houses, transportation, or intelligence gathering, without financial compensation. Typically diaspora jews, sometimes dual nationals, they operate discreetly to aid mossad’s covert missions, enhancing its global reach while minimizing costs and detection. Their roles vary, from minor tasks like providing local knowledge to more significant support, all driven by a sense of allegiance
